Overcoming the Obstacles of Recruitment Roadblocks [Infographic]
By Phil Stewart
From an outsider’s perspective—hiring seems easy, right? Before my time here at Kenexa, I was an HR professional and people often asked why it was so hard to fill an open req. I mean, you just post the position, sort through résumés, conduct some interviews and hire someone. Not too complicated, right? Well, for those of us who deal with the struggles of recruiting, or should I say, finding the right people for the right job, the journey is a bit more involved and can sometimes feel like it’s full of roadblocks.
With all of today’s challenges, hiring the right candidate can be complicated. Not only does the person need to be right for the job, they also need to be right for the company’s culture. You have to find quality candidates quickly without wasting time or money. There are other things to keep in mind, too. What approaches can you use that are different from your competitors so you can truly reach those hard-to-find candidates? How do you build up your talent pool to have candidates readily available fill jobs in high turnover positions?
There are many roadblocks you may encounter that make it challenging to recruit the right candidates—but there are nine that truly stick out as obstacles that define some of the challenges of recruiting in today’s world:
Attracting the wrong talent
Using a cookie-cutter approach
Working in an inefficient, non-automated process
Failing to consider culture
Doing more with less
Missing out on hidden talent
Recruiting under tight timelines
Experiencing the high cost of turnover
Making the hiring manager happy
The good news? The good news is there are solutions, answers and paths that can help you solve, overcome—and basically walk right by those obstacles. Done right, your journey to hiring a higher quality of candidate—and ultimately a better workforce—can breeze right by those roadblocks.
